20ft Radio & Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS VOL. VII C60

 https://yadi.sk/d/db8a9S_Mw6Hplg

For years now I’ve been certain that I scraped the barrel for quality yuletide tunes the previous year. But no - there's no end to xmas-gems if you know how-and where to look for them. Some of these lovelies are actually leftovers from Christmases past. But its common knowledge that some leftovers are better than when it was made fresh.

Here’s mostly folk, latin and lightly jazzy seasonal oldies - as always. Starts off (and ends) on a somewhat (beautifully) serious note but it gets all the more festive throughout. I’ll leave you with this call from A Christmas Carol:

Dream Weapons present: I HEAR VOICES C90

https://yadi.sk/d/xCvOBQxmZ0TaFw

I had already started collecting tunes for this mix of mine simultaneously as Sadhu Sadhu mentioned his similarily themed Mouth of Truth. His approach was quite unlike I Hear Voices. But I too present to you a smörgåsbord of human emotions expressed through the use of voice-or voices as the running theme. I always had a soft spot for spoken word done with genuine musicality - and half of the material included is musically accompanied poetry and tales. While the rest is primarily wondrous folksongs, or the more abstracted «voice as an instrument» kind of soundscapes. As often before this mix is darkly flavored, jazzy, folky, psychedelic and occasionally far out and experimental -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: SILK ROAD C60

https://yadi.sk/d/ktuTZHnD7kZXTg

SILK ROAD started off as an attempt to piece together some music from the countries bordering that legendary passage, however, too many songs failed to fit, and I found others from different countries that worked better so it became what it is. A kind of excavation into some primitive songs and some more polished and well-recorded. Just light a shisha pipe, brew some mint tea and sit back and immerse yourself for an hour.

20ft Radio & Dream Weapons present: DRAIN CRYSTALS 2 C60

We're back! There's been a few real life complications that has prevented us from posting lately - a computer crash amongst them. But we have no intentions of quitting although this is our...

Which means intimate, gentle, darkly gorgeous and haunting but nevertheless strange music - covering most of those genres and styles you’ve all grown accustomed to from Sadhu Sadhu ⟡, Praha Devi ☾︎ and Moahaha ♌︎︎. Dream Weapons present: GATES TO PARADISE C60

Its a little misleading that this collection of «modern»-or psuedo classical tunes visually ended up resembling a religious mass. But the mood sort of fits + I love the Wilhelm Bernatzik painting that I used and just kept its title. Too much sentimental nostalgia for some I’m sure. But autumn is coming up and I need these melancholic adagios of unbashed beauty like I need my warm blanket, my book and my mug of hot cocoa.

Dream Weapons present: SUN MOON STARS C60

https://yadi.sk/d/Jgln-6ps3ZwKRV

I had planned for you to post a pitch black and dissonant mix but today I didn’t feel like adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Instead I present to you:

-A shamisen/jazz fusion groover followed by some vintage Rocksteady, Bollywood, Lollywood, Bellydance/Oriental-favorites and so fourth. No actual concept but a looser follow up to former «world» mixes such as Earth’s Orbit, A Traveller’s Tale, Faraway Dances and One Last Dance. Some transitions from one tune to another may not be the most graceful ever but... well its for free!

20ft Radio & Dream Weapons present: MOUTH OF TRUTH C60

https://yadi.sk/d/7AeN13RA3ZKFFJ

On our fourth mix for 20ft Radio, Moahaha and myself traveled the corners of the world in search for voices of truth.

Our journey took us deep into the ancient temples of Japan and their buddhist monks hypnotic prayers, way up to the frosty north for a visit among the Sami on the planes of the Russian tundra, onwards to the warmth of Persian nights sprinkled with soulful serenades, then both to Mongolia and The Altai Republic for an introspective voyage trough deep rumbling tones of throat singing, a detour to the Swedish sea side with their crisp local folk tunes, a short stop in the humid nights of Haiti and its haunting Vodou chants, venturing to USA exploring both a spiritual meditation on the devil and an intimate pop session of heartbreaking harmonies on teenage love and loss before we went all the way to a Senegalese monastery and their ecstatic monks.

These and many more people and places are to be found on Mouth of Truth, a sombre mix devoted on the beauty of song with the occasional sparse instrumental backing, showcasing spirituals, folk, choral, a cappella and sacred songs from all over the planet.

Dream Weapons present: OSIRICA C60

https://yadi.sk/d/BJhng6bG3ZBKGx

OSIRICA is admittedly a bit of a ADHD mix, keeping on track only for a couple songs at a time before steering into the abyss. I planned it that way, so I hope you can just enjoy the songs for what they are, and see that they do follow some twisted path in my mind at least.

SEVEN RAYS is an odd mix for the time of year, but one can't be happy all the time. Its a reflective mix drawing on occult/religious/spacey/jazz tracks from all corners of the web. 20ft Radio & Dream Weapons present: CURTAIN CALL C60

Our third mix for 20ft Radio is a murder mystery thriller-horror movie (with lots of nudity)-soundtrack. An overload of dark grooves and stunning melodies like in those classic 70’s giallo-films. This mix is partly made from nicking killer tunes from largely forgotten B-movies - in combination with some library music-favourites + a couple of "cinematographic songs" that just seemed to fit in perfectly. Enjoy!

Dream Weapons present: OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD C90

After a short interlude wandering the lonely streets at night we follow the yellow brick road from the summer of love to Altamont and the Manson Family… A slight exaggeration of contrasting opposites there. I could have just informed you that the mix mostly contains warm and loving hippieish-stuff, but there’s both lightly naive and darker-tinged tunes to be found. That would be boring though. How about: a psychedelic trip down memory lane the way nobody remembers it - complied by someone who wasn’t there.

Dream weapons present: ROCK ME TO SLEEP C90

Built around the ultimate song of despair in the history of mankind (O Death…), these ninety minutes of lamentable lullabies, haunting ballads and melancholic folktunes sort of made itself (well, the four hour long version did). I think I've put together a thing of great beauty and mystery - which I hope you’ll find uplifting rather than depressing. Besides its not as dark or gloomy as I make it out to be. If you were actually rocked to sleep while listening I’m sure your dreams would be mostly pleasant and only slightly eerie.

Dream Weapons present: SPACE PORTAL C90

Space Portal is in essence a Jazz-mix. It breaks its borders a touch but stays within the same overall vibe of "put it on and do other things around the house", or "sit on a ferry and watch the ocean whilst listening". Either way, its a meditative, energetic, slow, twisting, fading, rising mix of live recordings and studio recordings. Sit back, relax.

Dream Weapons present: TANTRIC MIRROR C60

While Prabha Devi is drinking fancy cocktails (or more likely, Old Munk & 7up) under a palm somewhere in India, I'm stuck up north in what seems like an endless winter. I have no idea if you can tell by listening to this though. Tantric Mirror is a split where Prabha Devi did all of side B and I, obviously, did side A. Containing new and old favourites from us both. Dream weapons present: RITES AND PASSAGES C60

My idea of tunes for tripping, meditation, worship, rituals and other spiritual practices. But like myself you can just listen while leading your everyday life doing anything or nothing. I think all great music has the potential to mentally transcend you to places you’re not physically at. But nothing transports you along to other dimensions quite like pounding flutes and swirling percussion (or was it the other way around).

I’m probably overemphasizing this whole transcendental-vibe a little. Among other things you’ll immediately notice that there’s normal jazz here too - albeit of the orientally & spiritually oriented kind.

Dream Weapons present: EARTH’S ORBIT C90

Covering a lot of musical territory and many moods - earth’s yearlong orbit around the sun seemed like an appropriate metaphor for my world party mix no. 4 or 5 (or 6). The Armenian lady dressed in her stunning traditional folk-costume largely exudes serious beauty but there’s an overweight of festive dance tunes here (also loaded with beauty I may add). Yet another one for the ever expanding dream-party-that-may-never-materialize-collection.

Dream weapons present: FIRE GONNA BURN MA SOUL C60

https://yadi.sk/d/yXKNohMA3RwcgY

Finally got my hands on a mint version of the sensational 1967 seven-inch that bookends this mix. So I simply had to compile an additional 54 minutes out of the vintage African American soul, jazz, spirituals, spoken word, blues and folksongs about Jesus, protest, love, work/penal labor, life and death - that I had lying about. Slowly and inconsequently working our way backwards, two-thirds into the mix we go as far as nine decades back (pre-Great Depression era) - before «safely» arriving exactly where it started. Serious fun guaranteed!

Dream Weapons present: LOW FIDELITY C60

Low Fidelity is another mix with quite a few interwoven genres. From memories of hearing Bobb Trimble the first time in Mikael's apartment in Copenhagen in the late 90s early 2000s, to songs recommended by Paul Welller of all people, this mix follows no tracks and just rises and drops in random fashion. Plug in and enjoy the ride, or stop off and check out one of our other 80+ mixtapes.

Dream Weapons present: THE TIME CAPSULE C90

A time capsule is a gift from a past to a future - which means it represents both the future and the past simultaneously. But no one knows if its a gift from an advanced past to a primitive future, or the other way around. So what is this about then? - nothing really but a concept that establishes an inspirational place in time and space to create this retrofuturistic trip to weirdsville. Come to think of it the title of the tune "Freeform Experimental Electronic Music with Spoken Poetry" says a whole lot about the capsule’s content - just add "catchy" before freeform.
